Academics & NEP-2020 Implimentation

  1. Introduction:

Rajarambapu Institute of Technology (RIT) has consistently demonstrated its commitment to academic excellence and innovation in education. RIT was granted academic autonomy in the year 2011-12. This status has paved the way for us to design curricula that are finely attuned to the dynamic needs of the business and industrial sectors. Our journey towards academic excellence has been marked by a multitude of initiatives aimed at fostering research, knowledge creation, and the delivery of education with a focus on nurturing socially-responsible professionals.

  1. Academic Initiatives at RIT: Some of these key initiatives include,
  • Minor & Honor Certification Scheme: RIT offers a wide range of specialized minor and honor certification programs, allowing students to delve deeper into their areas of interest and expertise.
  • Choice Based Credit System (CBCS): Our institution has adopted the Choice Based Credit System, providing students with the flexibility to choose courses that align with their career goals and interests.
  • In-Semester Evaluation: RIT employs innovative learning practices for in-semester evaluations, ensuring that students receive a holistic and comprehensive education.
  • Student Exchange Program: We encourage our students to participate in international exchange programs, broadening their horizons and exposing them to diverse cultural experiences.
  • Experiential Learning: RIT places a strong emphasis on experiential learning, enabling students to gain practical insights and hands-on experience in their chosen fields.
  • Online MOOC Courses: Both students and faculty members have access to a wide array of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) to enhance their knowledge and skills.
  • Teaching and Learning in Online Mode: Recognizing the importance of digital education, we have seamlessly integrated online teaching and learning methods into our curriculum.
  • Innovative Practice League (RIT- IPL): To foster innovation in pedagogy, we host the Innovative Teaching Premium League, a competition aimed at inspiring faculty members to continuously improve their teaching methods.
  • Executive Courses: RIT offers specialized executive courses designed to train industry professionals, ensuring that they remain up-to-date with the latest industry trends and technologies.
  • Continuous Evaluation System: We have regularly updated our rules and regulations for the continuous evaluation system to align with industry standards and best practices.
  • Curriculum Design as per AICTE Guidelines: Our curriculum is meticulously designed in accordance with the guidelines provided by the All-India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), ensuring that our programs are of the highest quality.
  1. Implementation of National Education Policy (NEP-2020) at RIT:

In line with our commitment to staying at the forefront of educational innovation, RIT has decided to incorporate the provisions of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 into our curriculum for the 2022-2026 batch across all programs. This strategic move reflects our dedication to providing our students with a holistic and future-oriented education that prepares them to excel in an ever-changing global landscape. The NEP 2020 integration is poised to further enhance the quality and relevance of our academic offerings, making RIT a beacon of excellence in higher education. Key features of NEP 2020 at RIT are given below.

  1. F. Y. B. Tech:
  • Vocational and Skill Enhancement Courses: Engineering exploration and Design, Engineering Practice lab (Workshop)
  • Ability Enhancement Courses: Choice based English, German and Japanese language.
  • Co-curricular Courses such as Yoga and Sports.
  • Engineering Science Electives such as Basic Electrical, Engineering Materials, Basics of Mechatronics, Basic Mechanical etc.
  1. S. Y. B. Tech:
  • Vocational and Skill Enhancement Courses: includes choice based Professional skill development courses such as Personal Effectiveness and Body Language, Interpersonal Skills [Work life balance], Professional Leadership Skills, Innovation Tools and Methods for Entrepreneurs, and mini project of Environmental Science.
  • Value Education course like Environment Science and project.
  1. T. Y. B. Tech.: includes open and program electives. Verticals related to specific areas are included in the list of program electives. Students can opt courses of particular vertical to become an expert in that area.
  1. Final Year B. Tech: includes choice-based internship system comprising Industry Internship & Projects, Under graduate Research experience internship, Entrepreneurial development internship, Students are encouraged to consider regional, national, and global needs when selecting the projects under internships.

Under NEP 2020 students can opt one of the vertical from four as given in table no 1.

  • 4-Years (B.E./ B.Tech. or Equivalent) in Engineering. / Tech. with Multidisciplinary Minor (MDM): This qualification involves a 4-year Bachelor's program in Engineering or Technology with the addition of a Multidisciplinary Minor. The MDM offers students exposure to a diverse range of subjects beyond their primary field of study, enhancing their interdisciplinary skills.
  • 4-Years (B.E./ B.Tech. or Equivalent) in Engineering. / Tech. with Multidisciplinary Minor + Honors: This qualification extends the 4-year Engineering or Technology program by incorporating a Multidisciplinary Minor and Honors. The Honors component typically entails advanced coursework allowing students to delve deeper into their chosen field.
  • 4-Years (B.E./ B.Tech. or Equivalent) in Engineering. / Tech. with Multidisciplinary Minor + Honors with Research: This qualification combines a 4-year Engineering or Technology degree with a Multidisciplinary Minor and a strong research focus. Students engage in significant research activities alongside their coursework, fostering innovation and critical thinking.
  • 4-Years (B.E./ B.Tech. or Equivalent) in Engineering. / Tech. with Multidisciplinary Minor + Specialization Minors: This qualification program includes a 4-year Bachelor's program in Engineering or Technology along with a Multidisciplinary Minor and Specialization Minors. Specialization Minors allow students to concentrate on specific subfields from engineering, enhancing their expertise in those areas.

4. Curriculum Development Process at RIT: Each department in RIT has established Board of Studies (BOS). It comprises Industry experts, Parents, Alumni, students and faculty of the department. BOS of each department develops the initial version of the curriculum based on inputs regarding course outcomes, content of the syllabus from members. Moreover, feedback is collected from different stakeholders like alumni, employers etc. to be considered for designing the curriculum. BOS comprises employers of national and international organizations who give the inputs regarding local, regional and global needs. Moreover, faculty of the institute attend the webinars, seminars, conferences hosted by IUCEE, GEDC and others to get exposure of recent technologies and global requirements to be incorporated in curriculum. Finally, curriculum is presented in the Academic Council (AC) meeting for final approval.

5. Minor and Honor Certification Program Institute has implemented Minor and Honor certification programs wherein students can learn interdisciplinary and advanced courses. Under Minor Certification Scheme, students can learn courses from another department. In Honor Certification scheme, Students can select advanced course from their respective branch in which they are perusing the degree. To get minor or Honor degree certificate, aspiring student must register for additional five theory courses and acquire additional maximum 15 credits (3 credits/course) for any one of the schemes. Registration details for Minor & Honor Courses from 2017-18 to 2022-23 is given in table.2

5. Implementation of Three track Project System Earlier Institute used to offer four tracks of project system till 2022-23. These tracks include,

  • Industry Internship & Project (IIP)
  • Undergraduate Research Experience (URE)
  • Entrepreneurship Development (ED)
  • Capstone Project (CP)

Based on the suggestions given by industry people and renowned alumni of RIT, Institute decided to keep Capstone project compulsory to all students from A. Y. 2021-22. Capstone project is made compulsory to all Final Year B. Tech Students. It is included in 6th Semester (2 Credits) and 7th Semester (4 Credits) curriculum. Under Capstone project students can work in college or do projects sponsored by industries in eighth semester students are given choice to opt one track from IIP, URE and ED. Allotment of students for three tracks is given in table no.3.
