Innovative Practice League (IPL)

About IPL

The Innovative Practice League (IPL) is a prestigious competition conducted at our institute since the academic year 2017-18. This competition serves as a platform for our faculty members to showcase their active learning and ICT (Information and Communication Technology) tools used for course delivery. IPL encourages innovative teaching methods and rewards excellence in teaching.

Evolution of IPL
  • 2017-18 and Beyond: IPL competitions were conducted at the institute level, where faculty members had the opportunity to present their ideas and work, promoting the use of active learning and innovative teaching tools.
  • 2020-21 and 2021-22: Due to the pandemic, the competition was held at the department level.
Objectives
  • Motivation: To motivate faculty members to use active learning and innovative teaching tools.
  • Implementation: To ensure the effective implementation of these techniques by faculty.
IPL Methodology

IPL follows a structured methodology to ensure a fair and competitive environment:

  1. The competition is organized at the end of every academic year.
  2. Each faculty member is given a chance to present their innovative ideas and work at the department level.
  3. One observer from another department attends these presentations, providing an external perspective.
  4. The top two presenters from each department compete at the institute level.
  5. A panel of expert judges evaluates the presentations.
  6. Cash prizes and certificates are awarded to the best performers.

IPL Outcomes

The Innovative Practice League has produced remarkable outcomes for our institution, including:

  • An increase in the use of various active learning and ICT tools by faculty, such as PBL, Jigsaw, Flipped Classroom, Slido, Kahoot, MOODLE, MS Teams, and Digital Writing.
  • Motivation among faculty to incorporate active and innovative teaching methods, with 100% faculty members now using these tools.
  • Improved confidence among faculty members, leading to publications on pedagogical methods in conferences and journals.

  • Enhanced quality of academic delivery and improved student results.
IPL During COVID Pandemic

The COVID-19 pandemic presented unprecedented challenges to academic delivery. Here's how we adapted IPL to address these challenges:

  • Organized a one-week Faculty Development Program (FDP) on "ICT for Academic Delivery and Active Learning Methods," covering hands-on training of tools like MS-Teams, Slido, Kahoot, Google Classroom, Socrative, and more.
  • Provided faculty members with the latest computing hardware, high-quality microphones, web cameras, writing pads, camera stands, and high-bandwidth internet connections to enhance online teaching quality.
  • Developed specific parameters for measuring the quality of online academic delivery, including the quality of presentations, the use of active learning methods and tools, student participation in classroom activities, lecture recordings, and resources for students.
  • Adapted IPL to focus on effective online academic delivery during the pandemic, conducting the competition in two stages.
    • Part 1: Evaluation of each faculty member's efforts in online academic delivery.
    • Part 2: Evaluation of each academic department for their effectiveness in online academic delivery.
